Here's some of the impact on the student artists lives:
"I loved what I did and I thought it was absolutely amazing."
"I think the overall workshop was great. You guys did really good."
"More art makes everything more enjoyable!"
"I'll be able to share what I've learned with the children I babysit."
"I can give performances to raise money for a cause."
The 2009 Art Chicas program was amazing. (
check out the pictures!) Four adult women artists led small groups of female high school students through an orientation, workshop and reception. All components of the program were well attended and superbly fun for all involved. We are
currently working with the Art Institute of Dallas's senior design class to streamline the collateral for the event and the new & improved call for artists, applications, sponsorship materials will be available soon. Please check back for all the details.
Special thanks to artists Erica Felicella, Emily Stewart, Nicole Horn
and Kael Alford for your guidance and expertise to your apprentices who
helped you make your pieces so divine. Special thanks to Dahlia Woods
for her help with the reception. And as always, thank you to Art
Chicas chair Lisa Taylor for running the show.

Our second annual Art Chicas
program in November 2008 was a great success!!! This year, the jury selected
mentor artists gathered found objects from our 35 acre wooded site for
use in the day long workshop. Inspired by these materials, forty
teenage girls created and exhibited unique and wonderful works of art
while learning what it means to be an artist. Thank you Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Deaf Action Center Texas, Dallas Art Dealers Association, Central Market and our Mentor Madres for supporting this special program.
Special thanks to our artists Erica Felicella, Susan Graham, Diana Tate and Ivonne Acero. Shout out to Dahlia Woods for curating the evening exhibit and Tania Rivas for creating a recording studio onsite for the event. We also appreciate local artist Joan Winters for opening her space for the girls to tour and also to Marty Walker Gallery for sharing a successful and functioning gallery. Utterly inspirational!
